Hi there! Do you have 5 minutes to send an email and challenge government inaction?

XRUK is supporting Zero Hour's campaign to get at least 102 MPs to attend and vote in favour of the Climate and Nature (CAN) Bill at its second reading in January 2025.

The legislation would require the UK to achieve stricter climate and nature targets, and to establish a citizens’ assembly to guide the implementation of these targets.


CLIMATE AND NATURE (CAN) BILL

The CAN Bill is a plan for a new UK law to address the full extent of the climate and nature crisis in line with the most up-to-date science. Providing a comprehensive and joined-up approach to the emergency.

It began life as the Climate and Ecological Emergency bill in 2020 when many XR local groups held actions to help promote it to their MP. It’s taken this long to progress, but the ‘2nd reading’ is a vital step to give it the best chance to become law.

‘On Saturday, we witnessed something extraordinary: thousands of people taking to the streets across Great Britain and the globe in 150 actions for climate justice during COP29.

From Southampton to Glasgow, Azerbaijan to the Philippines, we came together to demand a world free from climate chaos, oppression and conflict.

In London, a historic alliance of more than 60 climate justice groups united under a shared banner to call for an end to fossil fuels and the genocide in Gaza.

Our march began at the British Museum to highlight its ties with oil giant BP — a corporation fuelling climate breakdown.

We then rallied outside SOCAR offices, calling out the Azerbaijani oil company and co-owner (with BP) of the BTC pipeline through which 30% of Israel’s oil flows — fuelling its genocide.

We ended with a rally at 10 Downing Street. Against a backdrop of banners reading “divest from militarism, invest in life”, we heard speeches by incredible activists from across our movements, as well as Armenia, Sudan, Congo and beyond.

Together, we sent a powerful message: there is no climate justice without human rights.
