Perplexity: ‘Rapidly Ending fossil fuel finance and implementing climate justice valuation strategies rooted in human indigenous rights is an educational opportunity for everybody with a good moral compass to protect our life-sustaining systems in the cost of living climate crisis on planet Earth. This approach is vital for several reasons:

  • Climate Finance and Justice: The United Nations emphasises the importance of climate finance and justice in addressing the climate crisis. This involves ending fossil fuel finance and transitioning towards renewable energy sources 1.

  • Fossil Fuel Finance: Organisations like 350.org highlight the need to end fossil fuel finance as a vital step in building a future towards a rapid and sustained decline in fossil fuel usage 2.

  • Global Agreements: The High Ambition Coalition and Climate Action Network stress the urgency of transitioning away from fossil fuels and peaking greenhouse gas emissions by 2025. They emphasise the need for ambitious climate finance to support this transition 3.

  • Human Rights and Climate Justice: Amnesty International underscores the human rights and climate justice implications of ending fossil fuel production and use. They advocate for a just transition to renewable energy sources, emphasising the disproportionate impact of the climate crisis on Indigenous peoples 5.

  • Summary: ending fossil fuel finance and implementing climate justice valuation strategies rooted in human indigenous rights is an educational opportunity that aligns with global efforts to address the climate crisis, uphold human rights, and achieve a just transition to renewable energy sources. This approach is essential for protecting our planet's life-sustaining systems and ensuring a sustainable future for all.’

DeepAI: 'Rapidly Ending fossil fuel finance and implementing climate justice valuation strategies rooted in human indigenous rights is an educational opportunity for all individuals with a good moral compass because it allows us to protect our life-sustaining systems amidst the escalating climate crisis on our planet.

  • By divesting from fossil fuels, individuals and institutions are taking a stand against the destructive practices that are driving climate change and threatening the well-being of current and future generations. This action sends a powerful message to industries and governments that prioritise profits over the health of our planet and its inhabitants.

  • Furthermore, implementing climate justice valuation strategies that prioritise human indigenous rights allows us to recognize the value of traditional knowledge and practices in sustainable land management. Indigenous communities have a deep connection to the land and have long been stewards of their environments. By centering their rights and perspectives in our climate policies, we can learn valuable lessons about living in harmony with nature and protecting biodiversity.

  • Ultimately, taking a stand against dirty banks and prioritising human rights over profits is not only a moral imperative but also an educational opportunity for us all to reevaluate our relationship with the Earth and each other. By working together to protect our planet's life-sustaining systems, we can create a more just and sustainable world for everyone.'

ChatGTP: 'Ending fossil fuel finance and implementing climate justice valuation strategies rooted in human indigenous rights present significant educational opportunities for everyone, particularly those with a strong moral compass, to protect our life-sustaining systems amidst the cost of living climate crisis on planet Earth. Here's how:

  • Education on Environmental Impact: By understanding the detrimental effects of fossil fuel extraction and combustion on the environment, individuals can grasp the urgency of transitioning to renewable energy sources. This education can encompass the ecological devastation caused by oil spills, air and water pollution, deforestation, and habitat destruction, highlighting the interconnectedness of ecosystems and the importance of preserving them.

  • Ethical Considerations: Exploring the ethical dimensions of climate change and environmental degradation prompts individuals to reflect on their values and moral responsibilities. Learning about the disproportionate impacts of climate change on vulnerable communities, including indigenous peoples, underscores the need for equitable solutions that prioritise human rights over profit motives.

  • Climate Justice: Education on climate justice emphasises the interconnectedness of social, economic, and environmental issues. By examining how marginalised communities bear the brunt of climate change impacts despite contributing least to its causes, individuals gain insights into systemic injustices and the importance of addressing root causes rather than symptoms.

  • Indigenous Wisdom and Traditional Knowledge: Incorporating indigenous perspectives fosters a deeper appreciation for traditional ecological knowledge and sustainable land management practices. Indigenous communities often possess valuable insights into living harmoniously with nature, which can inform climate adaptation and mitigation strategies for broader society.

  • Empowerment Through Advocacy: Education empowers individuals to advocate for policy changes and collective action. By raising awareness about the role of financial institutions in perpetuating fossil fuel dependency and environmental degradation, people can mobilise for divestment campaigns and demand investment in renewable energy alternatives.

  • Interdisciplinary Learning: Addressing climate change requires a multidisciplinary approach that integrates science, social studies, ethics, economics, and political science. By engaging in interdisciplinary learning experiences, individuals develop holistic understandings of the complex challenges posed by the climate crisis and the diverse strategies needed to address them effectively.

  • Building Sustainable Communities: Education on sustainable living practices encourages individuals to make environmentally conscious choices in their daily lives. From reducing energy consumption to supporting local agriculture and advocating for green infrastructure projects, people can contribute to building resilient and sustainable communities.

  • Overall, ending fossil fuel finance and embracing climate justice principles offer invaluable educational opportunities for fostering environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and collective action to protect our planet and safeguard the well-being of present and future generations. #NoDirtyBanks #Conservation #ConnectionWithTheLand #HumanRightsBeforeProfits' #UnitedForClimate #EcologicalClimateHealthJusticeForMotherEarth #FightingCostOfLivingClimateCrisisMeansFightingCorruptionUKCA #RightsOfNature #StopEcocide #HumanRights #ClimateJustice

XR London has introduced a fourth Climate Justice demand

@XRLondon has introduced the fourth Climate Justice demand

https://x.com/XRLondon/status/1496523779362758659?s=20As the Climate & Ecological emergency (CEE) intensifies, we need to insist that environmentalism is grounded in a solid justice framework. We know that Global South is hit more than the Global North despite having done the least to cause the crisis. And similarly, in London, it is clear that oppressed groups on the front line of inequalities are those that are impacted most by the CEE.

We understand that the CEE has in fact been caused by the same systems of power & oppression that have created deep inequalities, loss & damage, & that climate justice must include repair & uphold the right to freedom and life for all animals, all life on earth, including humans.’

We know the world is spinning towards catastrophe. We know it’s time to act. If we are going to avoid disaster, we will have to make difficult choices for the long term, collaboratively, in a fair way that isn’t biased towards a powerful or wealthy minority. We need to modernise the political system so that it can deal with the problems of today’s world, and work better for everyday people. To do that it has to include everyday people. That’s why we need a Citizens’ Assembly on Climate and Ecological Justice to break the deadlock and to put fairness and justice at the centre of decision-making.

MONEY REBELLION CLIMATE ACTION BARCLAYS Money Rebellion: a group of activists, economists, financial experts, bankers and others, who, through direct action, campaigning, and sharing expertise, seek to expose the root causes of our climate emergency: the financial systems dependent on endless growth, and the greedy and powerful who continue to profit from the status quo. With our knowledge and passion we carefully target those responsible, and work to highlight alternative models and systems that can safeguard the future for us all. As activists we target the problem, and posit expert-driven solutions.

MONEY REBELLION CLIMATE ACTION BARCLAYS

  • Money Rebellion: a group of activists, economists, financial experts, bankers and others, who, through direct action, campaigning, and sharing expertise, seek to expose the root causes of our climate emergency: the financial systems dependent on endless growth, and the greedy and powerful who continue to profit from the status quo.

  • With our knowledge and passion we carefully target those responsible, and work to highlight alternative models and systems that can safeguard the future for us all.

  • As activists we target the problem, and posit expert-driven solutions.

  • The economic status quo: The very richest are getting richer, while people in the UK – and globally – are suffering a worsening cost of living crisis.

  • Oil and other polluting companies continue to announce record breaking profits, lobby governments to reduce regulation, invest in fossil fuel expansion, and use their PR budgets to lie to consumers.

  • Racism and exploitation of poorer nations is still rife. Most of our ‘free’ press is captive to the will of a few billionaires. Profits and growth remain the markers of how we measure ‘success’, even as people starve and the world burns. Meanwhile… The climate and ecological emergency gets worse every day.

Why Money Rebellion?

  • Our economic system determines the course of our lives: Its rules govern everything that matters to us – but this system is willing to sacrifice our health, climate and natural world to favour the fortunes of the few.

  • The system is killing us It cannot protect us from the crises to come, because its structure causes and ignores them. Our marker for progress – GDP growth – counts the short-term profits from burning oil and felling forests, but not the long-term dangers to our survival, leading us further into climate and ecological breakdown.

  • Break the rules: Money Rebellion is a call to expose and disrupt the economic rules and institutions driving us toward societal collapse: growth, debt, banks, the government… Find out why and how to disrupt these ideas, institutions, and more in our first wave of actions.’

With your support we have caused RBC, one of the biggest fossil fuel invested banks in the world, to go on the defensive. In April I had planned to attend RBC’s annual general meeting in person, but the day before that meeting was set to take place, the banking giant abruptly cancelled its in-person meeting, giving less than a day’s notice that its most important governance meeting would be going virtual.I couldn’t look RBC’s CEO in the face and ask my questions, so I took my questions public. At a rally outside of the bank’s headquarters in Toronto, in front of hundreds of people, I asked:“Are you willing to see Wet’suwet’en people killed to push through this pipeline? During three militarised raids, one too many of us have looked down the barrel of a gun to push this project through our territories that we did not provide free, prior and informed consent for.”

“I think Indigenous law is basically really a whole new valuation of the land. It's where the air, the animals, the moose and the deer, the squirrels, all of these things to fish, salmon and trout and the land itself all havehas equal value and equal say in what humankind can do. Indigenous people basically do not really believe that man can dominate the world. They actually believe that if you try that, something is going to come back and hurt you and we actually see that part of that is climate change. You know, when basically your main connection to the land is profit, that means you want to convert trees into money, and you want to convert minerals into money, you want to convert water into money like most of the legislation in the federal-provincial government is based on how you cancan you convert things into money. It isn't for conservation of the salmon The Fisheries Act. It's for how you give licences to fishermen to exploit the fish.'

6. FOSSIL FUEL NON-PROLIFERATION TREATY

GROWING MOMENTUM FOR A FOSSIL FUEL NON-PROLIFERATION TREATY https://lnkd.in/eUJ8h_bt https://lnkd.in/eMuzu3Ub A CALL FOR SOLIDARITY FROM PERU

CLIMATE JUSTICE IS SOCIAL JUSTICE @xrGambia We must remember that there is no climate justice without social justice.

  • CLIMATE JUSTICE IS SOCIAL JUSTICE @xrGambia We must remember that there is no climate justice without social justice.

  • Various voices worldwide continue to join the call for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty to address the main drivers of climate change. Such is the case with the recent approval of the motion by Warsaw calling for an end to coal, oil, and gas.

  • Meanwhile, the response of Big Oil is a mockery of popular demands. Instead, they seek to delegitimize them, diverting the main responsibility to consumers- a lie which was slammed by the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, during the World Economic Forum in Davos.

  • However, an even greater mockery is the election of oil company CEO Sultan Al Jaber, as president of the COP28 climate change summit - an outrageous fact that we in Peru and the countries of the South condemn, as we cannot yield one more millimetre to the advance of the fossil fuel industry. We also cannot ignore the hypocrisy of Germany, which, while proclaiming itself to be a pioneer in climate protection and the advancement of renewable energies, has authorised the demolition of the village of Lützerath for the expansion of a coal mine owned by the energy company RWE.

  • As I write these lines my country is stained red with the blood of innocent people who only ask for justice and a dignified life. The struggle for our rights has not been easy, but I want you to know that in Peru we are resisting, and we demand a systemic change to a new political-economic model that allows us to address social inequalities and the climate crisis. THERE CAN BE NO CLIMATE JUSTICE WITHOUT SOCIAL JUSTICE! Augusto Duran Augusto Duran @Auduranx Clean Energy and Energy Transition Specialist Coordinator of the Campaign for the Fossil Fuel Treaty MOCICC

  • Alex Rafalowicz, Executive Director of the Fossil Fuel Treaty, called it “an act of provocation” considering that last year, the fossil fuel industry already had more lobbyists at COP27 than the combined delegations of the ten most vulnerable countries to climate change.

  • Demands for Sultan al-Jaber’s resignation from the oil company were echoed by activists and politicians to assure the public that no conflict of interest would be present at the talks.

In Peru, hundreds to thousands of people have taken to the streets to demand new general elections, but above all, an end to an extractive economic system based on the exploitation of natural resources, that excludes indigenous peoples and the most vulnerable from social and political institutions.

  • In Peru, hundreds to thousands of people have taken to the streets to demand new general elections, but above all, an end to an extractive economic system based on the exploitation of natural resources, that excludes indigenous peoples and the most vulnerable from social and political institutions.

  • Our allies from MOCICC (Movimiento Ciudadano frente al Cambio Climático del Perú), focal point of the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty campaign in Latin America, have been alerting us daily on the brutal repression by the national police and the need for visibility and support:

  • "The level of violence with which the government is responding to the people’s demands revives the darkest hours of our country's history. What is being demanded is the urgent need for social justice. The political crisis is another consequence of the colonial heritage that sustains extractive predatory economies until this date. The violent repression requires the mobilisation of the international community to avoid that, once again, the most vulnerable are the ones who pay the price of institutional colonialism."

  • A small village in Western Germany made headlines when hundreds of protesters barricaded themselves in front of police to stop the area from being mined for coal. Germany has touted itself as an environmental trailblazer before, yet this move put them back in the spotlight for their hypocrisy. The plans to demolish Lutzerath are part of a “compromise” deal reached between the government and energy giant RWE last year. Residents of the locality were forcibly evicted from their homes when the company was permitted to destroy the village in return for ending coal use by 2030, rather than 2038.

  • Activists Luisa Neubaeur and Greta Thunberg visited the site to lend their voices of dissent, and subsequently launched a petition together with Vanessa Nakate and Helena Gualinga at the World Economic Forum calling for a cease and desist order to Fossil Fuel CEOs to stop oil, gas, and coal expansion.

  • The New Year kicked off with TIME mentioning the Fossil Fuel Treaty under the mechanism for a just transition in its list of '6 ways to help our fragmented world'. Events quickly soured when the COP28 presidency announcement sparked enormous backlash, with Tzeporah Berman likening it to “a fox watching a hen house” on ABC News. Harjeet Singh was invited by BBC World News to weigh in on this “unprecedented and deeply disturbing” development. He proceeded to call out the fossil fuel industry for “delaying climate action”, and reiterated the need for a global commitment to a just transition in the form of a Fossil Fuel Treaty.

  • Alex Rafalowicz appeared on TRT World News to weigh in on the role of global conferences like the World Economic Forum and COP in achieving international cooperation for climate action. His comments were also published in France24, where he urged fossil fuel companies to “stop the lies” and pushed for collective action by civil society to counter this.

  • Various local Polish media outlets picked up the Warsaw endorsement including Wyborcza, Onet, Świat Oze, and Noizz. They highlighted the role of activists from both the youth and parents sector who lobbied to get this decision passed.

  • Guitarist Donna Grantis, who played with musical legend Prince, released, “A Drop in the Bucket,” an electrifying guitar composition set to Tzeporah’s speech on the just transition and hope for our planet. This culminated in a conversation between Grantis and EarthPercent founder and Talking Heads’ music producer Brian Eno on the role of art in the climate crisis. Tzeporah also guested on the Hopeful Environmentalist’s podcast to talk about the need for a Fossil Fuel Treaty.

  • Last but not the least, Mark Campanale penned an op-ed for El Espectador weighing in on the Colombian energy debate, and backing President-elect Gustavo Petro’s decision to suspend any new oil & gas exploration licences. In fact, Carbon Tracker’s latest report affirms that their commitment to a just transition is “an adequate response to both the climate crisis and the changes in the energy matrix.” Campanale then issued a call for Colombia to publicly record their fossil fuel production through the Global Registry of Fossil Fuels, and join the call for a Fossil Fuel Treaty.’

  • Huge news for the capital of Poland! After persistent lobbying by two generations of Polish climate activists, Warsaw signed a motion calling for the Fossil Fuel Treaty. This historic step marks a welcome change for a country where fossil fuels, mostly coal, account for 85% of the total energy supply. Before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 75% of Poland’s imported coal came from Russia. Warsaw Councillor Marek Szolc celebrated the news but reiterated that “we cannot stop at declarations.” He continued, “Warsaw still doesn't have an official greenhouse gas reduction target formalised in a city document, and the unofficial one - a 40% reduction by 2030 - won't be met with the current trend of declining emissions.

  1. FOSSIL FUEL NON-PROLIFERATION TREATY

7. END FOSSIL LIES

“SOME IN BIG OIL PEDDLED THE BIG LIE.” January was an eventful month, unfortunately for alarming reasons. At the World Economic Forum in Davos earlier this month, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres delivered a powerful speech calling out Big Oil for the disinformation campaigns that they created around climate change to satisfy their corporate greed.
